Purpose of the Role
The Incumbent is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, reliability and performance improvement of hydraulic systems across an EAF-based Steel Melting Shop. The role involves preventive and breakdown maintenance, hydraulic equipment inspection, shutdown planning, spare parts management and coordination with SMS operations to ensure maximum equipment availability and safe plant operations.
Job Responsibilities (KRA)
1.Hydraulic System Maintenance
- Maintain hydraulic systems associated with the Electric Arc Furnace (EAF), Ladle Furnace (LF), Continuous Casting Machine (CCM) and other SMS equipment.
- Handle hydraulic power packs (HPUs), pumps, hydraulic motors, cylinders, directional control valves, pressure-control valves, proportional/servo valves and accumulators.
- Maintain hydraulic circuits used for furnace tilting, electrode lifting, roof movement and other mechanisms, wherever hydraulically operated.
- Inspect hydraulic pipelines, hoses, filters, oil coolers and lubrication systems.
2. Preventive and Breakdown Maintenance
- Prepare and execute preventive, predictive and condition-based maintenance schedules.
- Diagnose hydraulic failures, including pressure loss, oil leakage, overheating, abnormal noise and slow or erratic actuator movement.
- Carry out root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring hydraulic failures and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Minimize equipment downtime and improve hydraulic system reliability and availability.
3. Hydraulic Oil and Contamination Control
- Monitor hydraulic oil quality, filtration, cleanliness and contamination levels.
- Ensure proper oil sampling, filtration, flushing and replacement as per equipment requirements.
- Monitor operating pressure, temperature, flow rate and other critical hydraulic parameters.
4. Shutdown Planning and Execution
- Plan and coordinate hydraulic maintenance during scheduled shutdowns and major overhauls.
- Coordinate with SMS operations, electrical maintenance, instrumentation and mechanical maintenance teams.
- Ensure timely completion of maintenance activities with minimum production interruption.
5. Spare Parts and Documentation
- Identify critical hydraulic spares and maintain optimum inventory levels.
- Coordinate with procurement for pumps, valves, seals, filters, hoses and other hydraulic components.
- Maintain equipment history, breakdown reports, maintenance records and hydraulic system documentation.
6. Team Management and Safety
- Supervise hydraulic technicians, fitters and maintenance contractors.
- Allocate jobs, monitor maintenance quality and ensure timely execution.
- Follow plant safety procedures, lockout/tagout (LOTO), permit-to-work systems and safe isolation practices.
- Ensure compliance with standard operating procedures and housekeeping requirements.
