Legal Counsel (Land & Port)

Designation: Sr. Manager

Purpose of the Role
The Legal Counsel will be primarily responsible for: 

1.        Drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial, business and operational contracts such as service agreements, manpower agency contracts, employment bonds, inter-jurisdictional agreements, land agreements. 

2.        Supporting litigation across tribunals, courts in India and arbitration matters to brief counsels, review pleadings and align with internal stakeholders on the strategy. Further, support in pre-litigation issues such as drafting of termination notice, suspension notice, notice of default, show cause notice, pre-litigation correspondence on behalf of the organization.

3.        Support in employment and labour compliances, and internal investigations. 

Job Responsibilities (KRA)
1.        Reviewing, revising and negotiating contracts; identifying legal and commercial risks and advising internal teams accordingly.

2.        Providing legal advisory to internal teams across human resources, ports, land and tax departments, and to international subsidiaries on operational, litigation and audit matters. 

3.        Handling company litigations, including IBC, employee-related and tax litigations, before courts and tribunals; maintaining a litigation tracker to ensure preparedness for upcoming matters. 

4.        Assisting on internal investigations and drafting disciplinary letters and related correspondence.

5.        Understanding internal business objectives and engaging with external stakeholders on policy matters.

6.        Working on internal corporate restructuring exercises in coordination with relevant teams.  

7.        Keeping abreast of laws, regulations and industry trends and assessing their impact on business operations.

Skills Required

 1.        Bachelor’s degree in law.

2.        3 to 6 years of relevant post-qualification experience from a law firm (Tier 1 or Tier 2) or in-house experience, preferably in manufacturing / industrial sector.  

3.        Strong communication, analytical and drafting skills.

4.        Diligent, able to work independently and be able to manage numerous projects simultaneously.
