Chemical Lab-SMS

Purpose of the Role 
 To ensure accurate, timely, and reliable chemical and physical analysis of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products for SMS operations using OES, XRF, Leco, wet chemical, and other laboratory techniques. 

Job Responsibilities (KRA)
•    Carry out chemical analysis of raw materials, in-process samples and finished products for SMS using OES/XRF and Leco analysers.

•    Perform wet chemical analysis as per applicable standards for elements not covered under instrumental analysis.

•    Conduct physical analysis of raw materials including sizing, moisture and other specified parameters.

•    Ensure timely and accurate reporting of test results to SMS and QA teams to support process decisions.

•    Calibrate, standardize and maintain OES/XRF, Leco and other lab instruments as per schedule.

•    Prepare samples as per prescribed procedures to ensure accuracy and consistency of test results.

•    Maintain lab records, test reports, calibration records and traceability documentation.

•    Follow safety procedures and good laboratory practices during sample handling and testing.

•    Coordinate with SMS, CCM and QA departments for urgent or non-routine testing requirements.

•    Support internal and external audits related to laboratory testing and documentation.

•    Identify and report any deviation in raw material or process chemistry to concerned teams.

•    Contribute to continuous improvement in testing accuracy, turnaround time and lab efficiency.

Job Requirements (KPI)
•    3–8 years of experience in a Chemical Lab role, preferably in an integrated steel plant or SMS environment.

•    Hands-on operating knowledge of OES/XRF and Leco analysers.

•    Good working knowledge of wet chemical analysis methods.

•     Experience in physical analysis of raw materials used in SMS.
