Purpose of the Role
To operate, monitor, and maintain the Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) safely and efficiently to achieve production targets while ensuring optimum power consumption, equipment reliability, and molten steel quality
Job Responsibilities (KRA)
- Assist in the operation of the Electric Arc Furnace during melting, refining, tapping, and charging cycles.
- Monitor furnace parameters including electrode regulation, arc stability, power input, oxygen injection, carbon injection, and furnace temperature.
- Perform scrap charging and supervise charging sequence as per production requirements.
- Ensure smooth furnace startup, shutdown, and tapping operations.
- Monitor slag chemistry and maintain proper slag practices.
- Coordinate with the Ladle Furnace (LF), Continuous Casting Machine (CCM), and Raw Material teams.
- Ensure timely addition of ferroalloys, fluxes, lime, dolomite, and carbon.
- Maintain electrode consumption within standard norms.
- Identify abnormal furnace conditions and take corrective actions to minimize downtime.
- Assist maintenance teams during planned shutdowns and breakdowns.
- Record production data, process parameters, delays, and shift reports.
- Follow SOPs, work instructions, and quality standards.
- Ensure proper housekeeping (5S) in the furnace area.
- Comply with all safety, environmental, and statutory regulations.
