Purpose of the Role
Owns the full testing and validation strategy for cells, battery packs, and BESS. Covers performance, safety, durability, and abuse testing against standards like UN 38.3, IEC 62619, ISO 12405. Also handles FAT/SAT, material characterisation (SEM, XRD), and team building.
Job Responsibilities (KRA)
- Define overall testing and validation strategy for cells, packs and complete Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
- Oversee design and approval of test plans for performance, safety, durability and abuse tests aligned to standards such as UN 38.3 (United Nations transport tests), IEC 62619 (industrial battery safety) and ISO 12405 (road vehicle battery tests).
- Ensure factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT) are planned and executed for all new equipment and products.
- Guide teams in material testing (scanning electron microscopy, Xβray diffraction) and data analysis methods to qualify new chemistries and designs.
- Build and mentor a strong validation team, review their reports and give clear go/noβgo decisions.
- Coordinate with product, BMS and manufacturing heads to quickly convert test feedback into design and process improvements.
Job Requirements (KPI)
- Deep expertise in vibration, acoustic and thermal abuse testing.
- Proficiency in Design of Experiments (DoE) and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Understanding of statistical analysis and test data interpretation.
- Crossβfunctional collaboration and communication skills.
Qualification : Master's or PhD in Electrochemistry, Materials Science, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
Experience : 12-15 Years
