Purpose of the Role
The Assistant Manager / Deputy Manager – MRSS will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, availability, and safe operation of the HT electrical distribution system, automation systems, and EOT/Process cranes in the Hot Rolling Mill. The role involves preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance, troubleshooting, project execution, statutory compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives to achieve production and operational excellence.
Job Responsibilities (KRA)
1. HT Electrical System Maintenance
- Ensure safe and reliable operation of HT/LT electrical distribution systems within the Hot Rolling Mill.
- Maintain HT switchgear, transformers, PCCs, MCCs, VFDs, capacitor banks, protection relays, and associated equipment.
- Plan and execute preventive, predictive, and shutdown maintenance activities.
- Analyze electrical faults and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Monitor power quality, energy consumption, and electrical system performance.
- Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards and statutory regulations.
- Coordinate with utility and production teams for uninterrupted power supply.
2. Automation & Control Systems
- Maintain and troubleshoot PLC, SCADA, HMI, DCS, and industrial communication networks.
- Ensure availability and reliability of automation systems for rolling mill operations.
- Diagnose and rectify issues related to drives, sensors, encoders, instrumentation, and control systems.
- Support automation upgrades, modernization projects, and technology enhancements.
- Manage system backups, software revisions, and documentation.
- Coordinate with OEMs and service providers for complex troubleshooting and system improvements.
3. Crane Maintenance
- Ensure reliable operation of EOT cranes, process cranes, transfer cranes, and auxiliary lifting equipment.
- Plan and execute preventive and breakdown maintenance of crane electrical systems, drives, motors, brakes, panels, and control systems.
- Monitor crane health and implement predictive maintenance practices.
- Ensure compliance with statutory inspection requirements and safety regulations.
- Investigate crane failures and implement corrective actions to improve reliability.
- Coordinate with operations to minimize downtime and improve equipment availability.
4. Reliability & Continuous Improvement
- Drive reliability improvement initiatives to reduce equipment downtime and maintenance costs.
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for recurring failures.
- Implement predictive maintenance techniques and condition monitoring practices.
- Develop and track maintenance KPIs such as MTBF, MTTR, equipment availability, and breakdown hours.
- Participate in TPM, Lean, Kaizen, and continuous improvement programs.
- Support digitalization and automation enhancement initiatives.
5. Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Ensure strict adherence to safety standards, LOTO procedures, and permit-to-work systems.
- Promote a zero-harm safety culture within the maintenance team.
- Ensure compliance with statutory, environmental, and company standards.
- Participate in safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
- Maintain proper maintenance records, SOPs, and technical documentation.
6. Team Management
- Lead and supervise technicians, supervisors, and contract manpower.
- Plan manpower deployment and maintenance schedules.
- Provide technical guidance, coaching, and skill development to team members.
- Coordinate effectively with production, projects, stores, and procurement teams.
