Purpose of the Role
The Advisor – Government Policy, Advocacy & External Relations will serve as the Group's most senior interface with Central and State Government bodies, regulatory agencies, ministries, and policy institutions. This is a strategic leadership role designed for a seasoned administrator who understands how policy decisions are made and can proactively shape the regulatory environment in favour of the Group's business interests.
Job Responsibilities (KRA)
1. Government & Regulatory Engagement
2. Policy Advocacy
• Develop the Group's policy positions on key issues – GST, import duties, mining regulations, environmental clearances, power tariffs and infrastructure policy
• Represent the Group in industry bodies such as CII, FICCI, ASSOCHAM, Indian Steel Association and other sectoral forums
• Prepare policy papers, white papers and position notes for submission to government authorities
• Engage with Parliamentary committees, NITI Aayog working groups and similar bodies when relevant
3. Licensing, Clearances & Compliance Navigation
• Facilitate and expedite statutory approvals, environmental clearances, mining leases, and project licenses
• Act as the primary escalation point for any regulatory blockage or compliance matter requiring government intervention
• Liaise with PCBs, MoEFCC, CEC, CMPDI, and other statutory agencies on an ongoing basis
4. External Affairs & Stakeholder Management
• Build alliances with think tanks, academic institutions, and public policy bodies relevant to the Group's sectors
• Manage media relations on policy and regulatory issues in coordination with the communications team
• Support the Chairman's office in high-stakes external meetings with government officials and trade bodies
5. Internal Advisory
• Brief the CMD, Board and SBU heads on policy risks, regulatory changes and government priorities
• Build internal capability on government relations processes, including SOPs for handling regulatory queries
• Prepare the Group's position ahead of policy consultations, industry surveys, and government dialogues
Job Requirements (KPI)
Educational Qualification
• IAS (Indian Administrative Service) – Retired at the level of Secretary, Additional Secretary or Principal Secretary
• Any advanced qualification in Public Policy, Law or Business Administration will be an added advantage
Experience
• Minimum 30+ years of distinguished service in the IAS with a strong track record in key postings
• Prior postings in Ministries of Steel, Mines, Power, Finance, Industry, Commerce or Environment preferred
• Experience as District Collector, Divisional Commissioner, or Secretary at State level – demonstrating ground-level governance
• Exposure to public sector undertakings, regulatory bodies, or project approval frameworks is highly desirable
