Purpose of the Role
To operate and control rolling mill stands to produce rebars as per required size, quality, and production targets while ensuring safe and efficient mill operation. To roll efficiently 8mm to 22 mm in single slit (2 material) through Block(NTM) route and no slit for 25 mm to 40 mm(without Block route).
Job Responsibilities (KRA)
1. Mill Operation
- Operate rolling mill stands during billet rolling to achieve desired rebar sizes.
- Adjust roll gaps, guide gaps as per rolling schedule.
- Ensure smooth material flow through stands without cobbles or interruptions.
- Stands and guides preparation at mill for the current sections.
- Maintain the weight/mtr of the rebar as per standard.
- Mount and dismount of Block(BGV/NTM) rings, pinch roll rings and parting to be done.
2. Process Control
- Monitor temperature, bar alignment, and rolling parameters.
- Maintain correct pass sequence and rolling settings.
- Assist in setting up rolls and guides during size changes.
- Prepare spare stands and troughs/Funnels for upcoming sections.
- Should have knowledge of slit rolling. Specially rolling through Block/NTM/BGV.
3. Quality Control
- Ensure finished rebars meet dimensional tolerances and surface quality.
- Identify defects (bends, cracks, underfill, overfill, scale issues, lapping issues) and take corrective action.
- Coordinate with QA/QC team for inspection and compliance.
4. Equipment Handling
- Check condition of rolls, guides, and mill components before and during operation.
- Report wear, damages, or abnormalities in equipment..
- Assist maintenance team during roll changing and breakdowns.
5. Safety Compliance
- Follow all safety procedures and wear required PPE.
- Ensure safe handling of hot material and moving equipment.
- Maintain a clean and hazard-free work area.
6. Coordination
- Work closely with furnace operators, cooling bed operators, and shift supervisors.
- Communicate effectively during rolling and in case of issues.
Job Requirements (KPI)
- Single Slit rolling basic, rings mounting/dismounting on Blocks/Pinch rolls & troubleshooting.
- · Good understanding of rolling mill stands, Block operations and pass design basics.
- Ability to adjust guides, rolls, and parameters during operation
- Quick troubleshooting of rolling issues (cobbles, misalignment, etc.)
- Teamwork and communication skills
- Awareness of safety practices in hot rolling environments
Experience : 10+ Years
Qualification: ITI / Diploma
